Most wiki sites use Persona to validate ownership. This mechanism stores the owner's email in the site's state, a non-public portion of the store.
The prefix of the email is visible in a claimed site. It may be possible to intuit the email from the visible portion of the claim name. For now, perfect privacy may require a separate email.
